Important Project - Attention all Pack Rats!

ATTENTION ALL PACKRATS, WE NEED YOU!

SCBS was founded in 1960, and to spread the good news about all the good work the volunteers were doing, an official newsletter was published.  The newsletter has been called The Sheepherder up through 1990, when our late past President John Carnakis changed the name to the “Sheep Sheet”. Publication of the SCBS endorsed newsletter has continued since at least 1970.  That was a long time ago, when nothing was digital. SCBS does not have an office or library, so all those precious old diaries of our history remain scattered in the homes of long time members and “old timers”.  It’s good stuff, it should be preserved and archived. Steve and I have been working hard to collect and scan as many of these historical newsletters as we can possibly locate. So far with the help of Glen Sudmeier, Steve Hill, Gary Thomas, Dennis Selich, John Nelson,  Bill Neill,   and others, we have acquired copies of the old newsletters and have made them available/searchable with OCR scanning.  WE NEED YOUR HELP. It’s our goal to find every old issue of the SCBS newsletter, scan them, and save them in a digital archive so they can be enjoyed in perpetuity.  If you have any of the old issues we need, this is your reason for saving them all these years. Hooray for our packrats! Your OCD has paid off!  All the issues that we have located so far can be viewed online on our website, https://sheepsociety.com/library/newsletter-archives  (look for the tab on the website’s  top banner that says “Library”, click down to “Newsletter Archives”, and you will see a list of everything we have so far.  Click on each one, and it will open up the high resolution scanned copy. Not only can you enjoy SCBS’s long history of groundbreaking work, complete with sweat and tears, these digital versions are downloadable if you desire.  If you have an old newsletter that is not loaded on the website, PLEASE HELP US OUT,  WE NEED IT.  Please contact Debbie Miller Marschke through this website so we can make arrangements to get that from you.  Your original documents will not be damaged or destroyed in the process, so if you want the old newsletters back, we can accommodate you. So c’mon all you packrats, take a look at what you’ve got and see if you can add to our official library. It’s an important project that deserves your time.
